a note to subscribers

Dear Subscriber,

You may have signed up for news and features from Indolent Books eight weeks ago or eight years ago and just received your first communication from the press this morning, when Second Coming Poem No. 50 went out to 479 subscribers. That was the size of a subscriber list that was all dressed up with no place to go. One platform was gathering the email addresses. Another platform was for creating the emails. Another platform sent out the emails. MailChimp was way to expensive. Constant Contact was a constant pain in the ass. And so on.

Finally, I realized that I could do everything right on the Indolent Books website and its WordPress environment. Any post could become an email. Any post could go out to my entire subscriber base. I suppose this has been the case for years. And yet somehow I didn’t quite get it. Now I’ve got it.

So this is just a note to say if you are new around here, welcome to Indolent Books. If you are new around here and getting content like the Second Coming poem-a-day series was not what you had in mind, feel completely free to unsubscribe, no hard feelings at all. If you start to get other content in the future that was not what you bargained for, again, there’s no commitment, feel free to unsubscribe.

If you stay, you will get poems, essays, stories, and of course me telling you what a great press this is and how awesome our authors are and trying to get you to buy their amazing books. I intend to keep it all lively and fascinating. But if I don’t meet your expectations or your needs, well, I already said if fourteen times: Feel free to unsubscribe at any time.

But I hope you stay.

💜🌈🦄
