Matthew Innes
The thing they don’t tell you
is that grace is also an infection. It
will fill your
blood with flowers. It will
call you neighbour and cost you nothing.
The thing they
won’t say out loud is that
something drowned the garden in care,
and now the earth
has given us her sick.
I don’t know how long this particular sun
will cast
this particular shade upon us, but
even the greenest grass will tell you that a
garden can
still grow in the shade.
