George Warui
Killer
Is devil
And cures the war of the
Kings
And for the
Ailing
And for the iller
And for the sexless
And cures the livers of the riviera
And cures the eyes
Of the devil
And the eyes of the satan
And cures the mind of the fallen
And the mind of the evil
And comes to kill steal and destroy
And cures the mind
Of the omens
Editor’s Note: Today’s poem is the last of 10 poems by George Warui that we have posted. I do not know much about Warui. He submitted what was essentially a complete poetry manuscript consisting entirely of poems in the same vein as those you have seen these past 10 weeks. I thought he was doing something interesting—innovative, provocative, risky, and perhaps relevant…even though I was not quite sure what he was in fact doing, if that makes sense. I’m not sure how I feel about this experiment overall…but that is part of what What Rough Beast is about for me…in fact what Indolent Books is about for me…the freedom to experiment and take risks on new poetic voices. —MHB
